Details of the Fatal Markapuram Bus Crash
The victims tragically include a five-month-old infant, a young girl, and six women. Of the 28 injured survivors, five are in critical condition and are receiving advanced treatment at hospitals in Ongole and Guntur. Local police responded rapidly, arriving within seven minutes to smash the bus windows and pull trapped passengers to safety. Because many victims were severely charred in the fire, authorities are currently utilizing DNA profiling for accurate identification before releasing the remains to grieving families.
What Caused the Bus Fire?
The ill-fated Harikrishna Travels bus was transporting 42 passengers from Nirmal, Telangana, to Vinjamur, A.P. It was driven by the travel agency owner, Harikrishna, who sustained injuries and is currently under police custody.
According to officials, the speeding bus veered into the wrong lane and rammed an oncoming lorry. The violent impact ruptured the lorry’s diesel tank, triggering a loud explosion. Fire department personnel reported that a suspected short circuit in the bus’s AC battery system, combined with flammable materials onboard, caused the flames to spread uncontrollably within minutes.

Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha inspected the accident site, stating that preliminary findings point to driver negligence. While the driver tested negative for alcohol, he claims his steering wheel jammed right before the crash.
