A tragic road accident on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Shamshabad early Sunday morning claimed the life of a 58-year-old real estate businessman from Warangal and left four others severely injured. The fatal crash serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of speeding and negligent driving on expressways
The Incident Details
The collision occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. near Exit-16 at Tondapalli village. According to Shamshabad police reports, the family was traveling in a car from Warangal to Gachibowli. The accident took place when the driver attempted a high-speed overtaking maneuver. Allegedly driving in a rash and negligent manner, the driver lost control and the car rammed violently into the rear of a lorry moving ahead of them. The collision was so violent it reduced the vehicle to a heap of twisted metal.
Victims and Casualties
The deceased was identified as Kapilavai Laxminarayana Rao (58), who was seated in the front passenger seat. He bore the brunt of the collision, sustaining severe head and throat injuries, and tragically died on the spot.
Four other occupants survived but sustained injuries. They were immediately shifted to a private hospital in Jubilee Hills for urgent medical care. The injured include:
Hari Kumari, 54 (Wife of the deceased), Sridevi, 47 (Relative), Samyuktha, 25 (Niece), Rajesh, 35 (Driver)
Police Investigation Underway
Upon being informed by the driver, the victim’s son, Kapilavai Sai Hitesh, rushed from Warangal to the accident site and later to the Jubilee Hills hospital. Based on his formal complaint, the Shamshabad police have registered a criminal case against the driver, Rajesh, for rash and negligent driving. A full investigation is currently underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the ORR crash.

To prevent such accidents, drivers must strictly follow speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking maneuvers. Maintaining a safe following distance behind heavy vehicles provides crucial reaction time during sudden emergencies.
Authorities should also enforce strict penalties for lane discipline violations using automated expressway cameras.
