A devastating road accident in the Dindori region of Nashik has claimed the lives of nine family members, including six children. The incident occurred late Friday night when their vehicle veered off the road and fell into a deep well in the Shivaji Nagar area.
Details of the Dindori Incident
The victims, residents of Indore village, were returning home around 10:00 PM after attending a coaching class get-together. According to the Dindori Police, the driver of the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) likely failed to see the well due to the extreme darkness of the rural path. The vehicle plunged directly into the water, trapping all nine occupants inside.
Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts
Upon receiving the alert, a rescue team led by Police Inspector Bhagwan Mathure rushed to the site. The operation involved:
- Two hydra cranes to lift the submerged vehicle.
- Local swimmers who assisted in navigating the deep waters.
- A two-hour intensive operation that concluded around 12:15 AM on Saturday.
Despite the rapid response, authorities confirmed there were no survivors. PI Mathure noted that the depth of the well and the nature of the plunge made it impossible for the occupants to escape the vehicle.
Victim Identification
The bodies were transported to a local government hospital for post-mortem examinations. Among the deceased is Sunil Dattu Dargude (32), with the remaining victims comprising other adult family members and six children.
This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the Nashik district, highlighting the urgent need for better lighting and safety barriers around open wells near rural roadways. Local authorities are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash.
Suggestion
Install high-visibility reflective barriers and warning signs around all open wells near rural roadways. Improve public street lighting in residential and transit areas to ensure hazards are visible at night. Drivers should maintain moderate speeds and use high-beam headlights when navigating unfamiliar or poorly lit rural paths.
