Six adults and two children, a total of eight members of a family died, and five others sustained serious injuries and, are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in a tragic road accident in Damoh(MP)
All the family members were traveling in SUV (Bolero), which fell into a 20-foot-deep ditch in Damoh district, Madhya Pradesh.
Fifteen members of the same family from Jabalpur, MP, were returning from Bandakpur after visiting the Jatasankar Dham. Around 11Am, their SUV (Bolero) veered off the road and fell into a 20-foot ditch near Mahadev Ghat, Banwar Chowki area in Damoh.
After receiving the information, Police and ambulances rushed to the accident spot. Six people, including two children, died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at Damoh District Hospital.
The five injured were referred to a hospital in Jabalpur for further treatment.
What Were the Probable Causes of the Accident?
- Was over-speeding the main cause?
- Was it due to distracted driving?
- Was overloading (15 persons including children in a Bolero) a factor?
- Was the road condition (curved road, ghat section) to blame?
- Was it a tyre burst or mechanical failure?
- Did the brakes fail?
- Was it due to overtaking and the vehicle plunging 20 feet off a bridge?
- Were other factors involved?
Aftermath of the Incident
This tragic mistake has taken the lives of six adults and two children, innocent people who will never return their home again. While some of the critically injured may survive, they could be left with permanent disabilities and emotional trauma. Vehicles can be repaired, but the loss of human lives is irreversible and heart-breaking.
Road Safety Message
- Never over-speed.
- Never overload the vehicle.
- Always drive within a safe speed limit.
- Ensure tyre tread depth is at least 1.4 mm and tyres are in good condition.
- Only drive vehicles that are roadworthy.
- Obey speed limits at all times.
- Never overtake at blind spots — ensure a minimum of 100 meters of clear visibility, especially in no-overtake zones (bridges, ghat sections, curved roads, intersections, or congested areas).
- Always wear safety gear — seatbelts for both drivers and passengers in four-wheelers.
