Tension prevailed on Nabakalebara Road in Puri district on Friday after a woman was seriously injured in a road accident involving a passenger bus, triggering a protest by local residents and causing traffic disruption in the area.
Bus Hits Woman Near Nabakalebara Road
According to reports, the accident occurred when a bus travelling from Jagannath Temple to Malatipatapur Bus Stand hit a woman on Nabakalebara Road. The impact left her with severe injuries. Alert locals immediately rushed the injured woman to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital for emergency treatment.
Her condition is reported to be critical, raising serious concerns among residents about pedestrian safety on the busy stretch of road.
Locals Block Road, Demand Action
1 .Following the incident, angry locals staged a protest by blocking Nabakalebara Road,
halting the movement of buses and other vehicles.
Protesters sat on the road demanding strict action against those responsible and immediate measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
The road blockade led to traffic congestion, leaving several vehicles stranded for hours and inconveniencing commuters.
Police Reach Spot, Situation Brought Under Control
Upon receiving information about the protest, the City DSP along with personnel from Kumbharapada police station rushed to the scene. Police officials held discussions with the protesters and worked to restore traffic movement while assuring necessary action in the matter.

The incident has once again highlighted road safety issues in Puri, especially on routes with heavy bus and pedestrian movement. Locals have urged authorities to implement speed control measures, improve signage, and ensure stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent further tragedies.
