NAVI MUMBAI – A 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a gruesome hit-and-run accident on Palm Beach Road in the early hours of Tuesday. The collision, which occurred near Sanpada, resulted in the rider’s decapitation and left his 17-year-old pillion rider fighting for her life.
The Incident
The victim, identified as 23-year-old Jamdade, was traveling along the arterial stretch when an unidentified speeding vehicle rammed into his motorcycle. The collision occurred with such extreme force that the motorcyclist was killed immediately upon impact.
The survivor, 17-year-old Harman Kaur, sustained catastrophic injuries to her head and both legs. She was rushed to DY Patil Hospital in Nerul, where she remains in critical condition.
Investigation and Forensic Analysis
Senior Police Inspector Devidas Katale of the Sanpada Police Station confirmed that investigators are currently narrowing down the search for the offending vehicle.
Vehicle Inspection: Authorities have flagged two suspected vehicles for inspection.
Evidence Collection: A forensic team and Crime Branch officials have processed the scene, collecting physical and technical evidence.
CCTV Review: Police are scanning footage from cameras along the stretch to identify the make and registration of the vehicle that fled.
Preliminary police reports suggest that the rider’s fatal injuries may have been caused by his head striking roadside barricades upon impact. However, officials noted that these are “preliminary assumptions” and the exact sequence of events will only be confirmed once the suspect is apprehended.
A Growing Pattern of High-Speed Fatalities
The tragedy has once again highlighted the dangers of Palm Beach Road, a stretch increasingly notorious for high-speed crashes.
