A devastating car accident on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway has claimed the lives of a couple and their five-year-old son, leaving their seven-year-old son fighting for his life. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon near the Hilalpur toll plaza in Nuh’s Rozka Meo.
The Incident
The family was traveling back to their residence in Old Gurugram after attending a relative’s wedding in Jaipur. According to Nuh police, the crash occurred between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM when the driver, 40-year-old Naveen Kumar Soni, reportedly swerved to avoid a stray dog that darted onto the expressway.
The sudden maneuver caused the Maruti Suzuki Fronx to lose control. The vehicle veered off the road, climbed the divider, and crashed violently into the concrete wall of an underpass. The impact was so severe that the car was mangled beyond recognition, trapping the family inside.
Victims and Survivors
The deceased have been identified as:
Naveen Kumar Soni (40): A manager at Indian Bank’s zonal office in Sector 32. He passed away late Monday night after being moved to Fortis Hospital.
Madhuri Soni (38): Naveen’s wife, who succumbed to severe facial and head injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital on Sunday.
Vihansh Soni (5): The couple’s younger son, who died from head injuries while being transported to the medical facility.
The sole survivor, seven-year-old Krishan Soni, remains in critical condition at a private hospital in Gurugram.
Investigation and Response
Two commuters who witnessed the aftermath stopped to assist, using the couple’s phone to alert their relatives. While the parents were briefly conscious and able to speak immediately after the impact, the severity of the wreckage made it nearly impossible for bystanders to extract them.
Krishan Kumar, the Public Relations Officer for the Nuh police, confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Based on the family’s statements and preliminary evidence, investigators have ruled out the involvement of any other vehicle or foul play.
The Soni family, originally from Bundi, Rajasthan, had been living in Gurugram for seven years. Following the completion of autopsies, the bodies were handed over to their grieving relatives.
Suggestion
Install highway fencing to block stray animals from entering high-speed lanes. Drivers should maintain steady steering instead of swerving sharply for small animals.
