A devastating road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district early Tuesday morning claimed the lives of six individuals from Rajasthan and left seven others injured, including four young children. The fatal collision occurred when a private double-decker bus crashed into a moving Maruti Eeco van.
The Incident and Impact
According to Hathras Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) RP Kushwaha, the severe crash took place at approximately 4:00 AM near milestone 141, adjacent to Garhi Hariya village under the jurisdiction of the Sadabad police station. The impact of the collision was catastrophic. Police reports indicate that the sheer force of the crash hurled the van nearly 10 feet off the roadway, completely crushing its rear section. While the front portion of the double-decker bus sustained damage, all passengers aboard the bus escaped without injury.
Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha stated that the accident happened as the bus driver was attempting to overtake the van. Preliminary investigations suggest that negligence and overspeeding on the part of the bus driver were the primary causes of the crash.
Details of the Victims
The ill-fated van was carrying 13 occupants, all residents of Dholpur district in Rajasthan. They were traveling from Delhi back to their home in Rajakhera to celebrate the upcoming Holi festival, while the bus was en route from Delhi to Gorakhpur.
Officials have confirmed the identities of four of the deceased as:
Dinesh Singh (50) and his wife Sunita (48)
Vijay Baghel (27) and his wife Pinki Baghel (26)
All four were residents of Gangoli village in the Rajakhera area of Dholpur. The identities of the remaining two deceased individuals are still being verified.
The seven injured passengers include the van’s driver, Virendra, along with Manoj and 15-year-old Poonam Baghel. Four children were also injured in the wreck: Aryan (8) and Anshu (6), sons of Ajay; as well as one-year-old Lakshya and three-year-old Prachi, who are the children of the deceased couple, Vijay and Pinki.
Rescue and Ongoing Investigation
Following the incident, police and administrative officials rushed to the site, though the crash initially triggered panic and a lengthy traffic jam on the Yamuna expressway. The injured victims were first transported to the Khandauli Community Health Centre. Subsequently, those in critical condition were transferred to SN Medical College and other specialized hospitals in Agra for advanced medical care.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have detained the bus driver, the conductor, and one additional individual for questioning as further legal proceedings and investigations continue.
Suggestion
To reduce accidents, authorities should install high-tech speed cameras and enforce strict penalties for any traffic violations.Drivers must maintain safe following distances and avoid driving while fatigued to ensure everyone stays safe on the road.
