Mathura, Uttar Pradesh | December 16, 2025
At least 13 people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a devastating multi-vehicle pile-up on the Delhi-Agra Expressway in Mathura district early Tuesday morning. The tragic accident occurred amid dense fog and extremely poor visibility, which led to a chain collision involving multiple buses and cars.
According to officials, the death toll has risen to 13, up from four fatalities reported earlier in the day.
What Happened on the Delhi-Agra Expressway
The accident took place in the early hours of Tuesday when seven to eight small buses, a tempo traveller, and several cars collided on the expressway. Dense fog severely reduced visibility, leaving drivers with little reaction time and resulting in a massive pile-up.
Several vehicles reportedly caught fire following the collision, leading to passengers being burnt to death, making the incident particularly horrific.
Official Statement from Mathura Administration
Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh described the incident as “extremely unfortunate” and confirmed the updated casualty figures.
“There were 7–8 small buses, one tempo traveller, and small vehicles involved. Thirteen people have been killed in a very unfortunate way. The injured are now out of danger,” Singh told reporters.
He further stated that the Chief Minister has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and has directed authorities to ensure proper and immediate medical treatment for all injured victims.
Injured Out of Danger, Rescue Operations Completed
Emergency services, including police, fire brigades, and medical teams, were rushed to the scene soon after the accident. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where officials confirmed that their condition is now stable and out of danger.
Traffic on the Delhi-Agra Expressway was temporarily disrupted as rescue and clearance operations were carried out.
Fog Continues to Pose a Serious Risk
This tragic incident once again highlights the growing danger of winter fog on North Indian highways, especially during early morning hours. Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to drive at reduced speeds, use fog lights, and maintain safe distances to prevent such catastrophic accidents.
