
A major road accident on the East Coast Road (ECR) near Keelakarai in Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram district has resulted in a tragic loss of life in the early hours of Saturday, December 6, 2025. At least five people were killed and seven others sustained serious injuries when a speeding car rammed into a stationary vehicle.
The deceased include a local DMK functionary, Mushtaq Ahmed (30), and four individuals from Andhra Pradesh. The victims from Andhra Pradesh have been identified as Ramachandra Rao (55), Apparao Naidu (40), Bandana Chandra Rao (42), and Ramar (45). Preliminary reports indicate that four victims died on the spot, while Ramar was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital.
Details of The Colision :
According to police reports, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on the ECR. DMK functionary Mushtaq Ahmed, along with six friends and a driver, was traveling from Yerwadi towards Keelakarai. Their vehicle, reportedly at high speed, collided with a stationary car bearing Andhra Pradesh registration plates. The stationary vehicle was parked in front of a hotel at the time of the impact.
The force of the crash was severe, leading to immediate fatalities among four occupants of the parked car. Mushtaq Ahmed, a passenger in the moving vehicle, also succumbed to his injuries.
Rescue and Response
Seven injured individuals from both vehicles were quickly rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. One of the injured, Ashrath Ali (28) from Keelakarai, has been referred to a specialized hospital in Madurai for advanced care due to the severity of his injuries.
A senior police officer supervising the rescue operation confirmed that the moving vehicle belonged to the deceased DMK functionary and was being driven by his chauffeur. The officer stated, “The vehicle crashed into an A.P. registration vehicle, which was parked in front of a hotel.”
Investigation Underway
The Keelakarai police have registered a case and a thorough investigation is currently in progress. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the accident, including factors like speed, driver error, and road conditions on that stretch of the ECR during the early morning hours.
