A series of tragic road accidents across North and West India have resulted in six fatalities, including a senior bank official and a teenager. The incidents, occurring between Sunday night and Monday, highlight ongoing concerns regarding highway safety and speeding.
High-Speed Collision on Delhi-Lucknow National Highway
Four men were killed and one critically injured early Monday when their car rammed into a stationary tractor-trolley near Mankara Mor, under the Mundhapande police station limits. The victims were traveling from Uttarakhand’s Nainital district toward Noida when their speeding vehicle hit a trolley loaded with bricks from behind.
The impact was so severe that the car was left completely mangled, trapping all five occupants inside. Emergency teams rescued the victims from the wreckage and transported them to the Mundhapande Community Health Centre.
The victims have been identified as:
Dayal Singh Rawat: Regional Manager at Nainital Bank (Noida branch).
Anil Negi (38), Sundar (42), and Bhuvan Bhandari (37): All residents of Haldwani.
Yashdeep Pandey: A yoga teacher from Haldwani, who remains in critical condition.
Separate Fatalities Reported in Mumbai
In Mumbai, two additional lives were lost in separate incidents on Sunday and Monday:
- Sakinaka Hit-and-Run: 15-year-old Pratik Mane died after a speeding Hyundai Creta struck the scooter he was riding pillion on near the Nahar Amrit Shakti junction. His brother, Sumit Mane, survived the crash.
- Western Express Highway Accident: 28-year-old Sameer Aslam Shaikh was killed near Dahisar Check Naka when a dumper collided with his Suzuki Bergman scooter. Despite being rushed to Shatabdi Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival due to severe head trauma.
Authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations and are continuing investigations into the causes of these collisions.
Suggestion
To prevent such tragedies, drivers must strictly adhere to speed limits and maintain safe following distances. Authorities should install better reflective lighting on stationary commercial vehicles to improve nighttime visibility. Enhanced highway patrolling and stricter enforcement of traffic laws can significantly reduce high-speed collisions.
