A devastating high-speed accident on the outskirts of Bengaluru claimed the lives of seven people early Thursday morning. The incident, characterized by a violent chain reaction of collisions, occurred on the highway stretch connecting Hoskote to Devanahalli.
The Sequence of Events
According to police reports, the tragedy began when a Mahindra XUV700, allegedly traveling at excessive speeds, rammed into a motorcycle from behind. The force of the impact was catastrophic:
Initial Impact: The motorcyclist, identified as a young man named Gagan, was thrown from his bike.
Fatality: Gagan struck a roadside barrier and succumbed to his injuries instantly at the scene.
The Chain Reaction: Following the initial collision, the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle. The SUV crashed into the central divider and subsequently overturned, triggering a pile-up involving multiple other vehicles.
Investigation and Aftermath
Authorities arrived at the site to find a scene of mangled metal and debris. While Gagan was the first confirmed fatality, the subsequent “chain crash” resulted in six additional deaths, bringing the total toll to seven.
Preliminary investigations by the local police point toward overspeeding as the primary cause of the disaster. The high velocity of the SUV not only made the initial impact fatal but also ensured that the driver could not recover control, leading to the lethal multi-vehicle pile-up.
