The fatal collision occurred on National Highway 16 near Shankharidih, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dharmasala police station.
The victims, identified as Subrat Sahu and Annapurna Pal from Siha village (under Barachana police station limits), were riding a scooter with their young daughter, Aaradhya. The family was returning home after completing a routine medical check-up in Jarka when a speeding car suddenly rammed into their two-wheeler, causing devastating injuries to all three family members.
Victims Rushed to SCB Medical College
Immediately following the crash, locals rescued the victims and rushed them to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre for primary medical treatment. Due to the critical nature of their injuries, their condition rapidly deteriorated, prompting an urgent transfer to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Tragically, attending doctors at the hospital declared both Subrat and Annapurna dead. Meanwhile, five-year-old Aaradhya remains hospitalized in critical condition, actively battling for her life under intensive medical care.
Village Mourns the Devastating Loss
The sudden and devastating demise of the couple has sent shockwaves through Siha village. A deep wave of sorrow and mourning has swept across the local community as they grieve the loss and pray for the swift recovery of the young girl.
Suggestion
Strict enforcement of speed limits on highways can significantly reduce the risk of high-speed collisions. Creating dedicated two-wheeler lanes on national highways protects vulnerable riders from fast-moving larger vehicles. Installing speed cameras and increasing highway patrols will deter reckless driving and ensure safer roads.
