
Tragedy struck on Sunday as two separate road accidents involving travelers from Odisha resulted in six fatalities and multiple injuries. The incidents, occurring in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, and Sambalpur, Odisha, have left families devastated and local communities in mourning.
Fatal Collision in Srikakulam: Three Killed, Two Critical
In a heart-wrenching incident in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, three residents of Bhubaneswar lost their lives when their car collided with a truck. The mishap occurred at Baruva while the victims were traveling from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam.
Authorities identified the victims who lost their lives as Kanakalata, Abalya, and Aditya. Two other passengers, Nagaraju and Janakiramana, sustained critical injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the car with such force that the vehicle was completely mangled. The truck veered off the road and landed in a nearby field due to the impact. Local residents initiated immediate rescue efforts before the police arrived. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, while the bodies were sent for postmortem examination.
Sambalpur Accident: Car Rams Into Parked Truck
In a second tragic event this afternoon, three individuals died on the spot in the Naxapali area of Sambalpur district, Odisha.
The accident involved a car (registration OD 14 U 8103) that rammed into the rear of a stationary truck (registration OD 15 U 9104) loaded with ash. The impact was fatal for three occupants of the car.
Two of the victims have been identified as Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Ziaul, while authorities are still working to establish the identity of the third person. Officers from the Dhanupali Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to begin an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
Road Safety Concerns
These back-to-back tragedies highlight the ongoing risks on regional highways. Police investigations are currently underway in both Srikakulam and Sambalpur to determine if overspeeding or driver fatigue contributed to these fatal encounters.
