A devastating midnight road accident on the outskirts of Bengaluru has claimed the lives of five individuals. The collision, involving a private car and a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus, occurred near the Jindal area on Tumakuru Road late Saturday night.
Details of the Incident
According to preliminary police reports, the accident took place around 11:30 PM. A Tata Indica traveling from Tumakuru toward Bengaluru reportedly lost control, crashed into the road divider, and crossed into the oncoming lane. The vehicle then toppled and collided head-on with a KSRTC bus heading in the opposite direction.
The impact was so severe that the car was left completely mangled. Investigating officers from the Madanayakanahalli police station suspect that overspeeding was the primary cause of the fatal crash.
Victims and Identification
The tragedy resulted in the immediate death of four car occupants. The driver, who was pulled from the wreckage in critical condition, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Harshit, a resident of Doddaballapur.
Lalith, a resident of Doddaballapur.
Both Harshit and Lalith were students at local private colleges. Harshit’s family noted that he had left home around 8:30 PM that evening to meet friends. The identities of the remaining three victims are currently being verified.
Bus Passengers and Investigation
The KSRTC bus was carrying 42 passengers at the time of the collision. While the front of the bus sustained significant damage, the passengers largely escaped serious harm, with only a few in the front rows reporting minor bruises. All passengers were safely transferred to an alternative bus to complete their journey.
The bodies of the victims have been moved to Nelamangala Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the exact sequence of events.
Suggestion
Install high-security median barriers to prevent vehicles from crossing into opposite traffic lanes during a crash. Enforce strict speed limits using automated radar cameras to discourage dangerous driving on high-speed corridors. Encourage drivers to avoid late-night travel to reduce risks associated with poor visibility and driver fatigue.
